The Graduate College:
Foundation:
Postgraduate Studies at the University of Khartoum started in 1954 with the "Clinical Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology " offered by the Faculty of Medicine. The first student for M.Sc by research was registered in the Faculty of Agriculture in 1958.
In 1967 the "Postgraduate Studies Committee" was created; Its responsibilities included planning, supervision and coordination of Postgraduate Studies.
The Senate of the University of Khartoum recommended the establishment of the Graduate College in 1972 (Senate minute 5576). Statute (35) creating the college was passed by the University Council in 1973. This allowed for wider representation of University Colleges and Institutes, promotion and coordination of interdisciplinary research and cooperation with similar institutes and research centres in Sudan and abroad.
The objectives of the graduate college are:
(1) To formulate and promote University policy in the field of post-graduate studies and research training.
(2) To promote and co-ordinate interdisciplinary research in the field of post-graduate studies and, for this and similar purposes , to co-operate with research units and other institutions outside the university.
(3) To be in charge of every institute, station or unit assigned to it by the University Senate or Council
